Chiropractic is the practice of caring for the spine and the nervous system. As a chiropractor, I use my hands and sometimes a small instrument to correct the vertebral subluxation, which is a misalignment of a spinal bone(s).
Anyone with a spine can benefit from chiropractic care at some point in their life. You don’t have to wait until you’re in pain before seeking chiropractic care. In fact, it’s better to start before you develop problems that are hard to fix.
Chiropractic is the safest of the healing professions. Chiropractors have the lowest malpractice insurance rates of any of the major health professions because our care is safe and effective. We are trained to know when to adjust and when not to adjust. We are taught how to work with people with every conceivable health condition.
People often come to me thinking that back and neck pain are the only things that can be fixed by chiropractic care. Not true! Think of it this way. Your spine and nervous system control every part of your body. So, helping improve the health of your nervous system and spine can improve function throughout your body. This includes digestion, concentration, blood flow, sleep patterns, and the overall function of your various organs.
Yes. Chiropractors use x-rays to evaluate the structure of the spine. The function of your body is dictated by the structure. It is important that your chiropractor be able to see exactly what is happening in your spine. As for safety, modern x-ray equipment uses high-speed screens and film, so that a good x-ray may be made with minimum exposure. Chiropractors have extensive training in x-ray safety, radiology, and x-ray physics. And, in most states, the State Health Department inspects and certifies chiropractic and medical x-ray equipment.
Subluxation is a misalignment of a spinal bone or bones. This will appear several potential ways in an X-ray, but generally as a curve that is not how the spine was designed to look.
Subluxations can happen for many reasons. Stress, poor posture, and injuries are some examples of its causes.
When a bone of the spine becomes misaligned, it causes irritation to the nerves, ligaments, and muscles in the area. This irritation leads to inflammation, pain, and dysfunction.
Subluxation is fixed with a series of spinal adjustments, which is what defines chiropractic care. An adjustment is key to removing subluxations. Once I find the misalignment using X-rays and, to some degree instrumentation, I place my hand on the area and use a quick gentle thrust to specifically move the misaligned spinal bone back into its proper position. In some cases, using instruments to manipulate the spine is deemed safer and more effective. I make those decisions based on each person’s individual situation. No two spines are alike so no two adjustments will be alike.
The most commonly accepted explanation is the "pop" sound is the result of nitrogen bubbles that are produced from the synovial fluid cavitating as the joint is moved. However, the "pop" sound is irrelevant - you can be adjusted without hearing a pop. Or, just because something popped, doesn't necessarily mean the subluxation was corrected.
Our office is at 103 W Colt Square Drive Fayetteville, Arkansas. We share office space with Reddell Chiropractic
I want people to be able to afford to be healthy. The initial consultation includes X-Rays, an exam, and the adjustment. This usually costs about $150-$275 depending on the number of X-Rays that need to be taken. Most adjustments are $45 per session for those paying out of pocket.
I can file insurance with Blue Cross & Blue Shield (BCBS), Ambetter and United Healthcare. Your rates will be determined by your plans with those three providers. I can provide you with a superbill if you want to try filing with your insurance provider for out-of-network provider services or for flex-spend plans.
Your first appointment will include completing the paperwork so I can best understand what your concerns are and your overall health. I will also take X-rays of your spine/neck. I will determine the appropriate course of care from there and we will schedule an appointment to review your results.
Your spine is one of the most vital pieces of your entire body and is very sensitive. While I am trained to detect misalignments with my hands and instruments, I want a clear view of what your spine looks like before I start making adjustments.
Your adjustment schedule will be determined by your individual situation. Each chiropractor uses its training and methodologies to determine adjustment frequency. I usually start most patients twice per week to see how well they do.
I share office space with massage therapist Autumn Worley of Why Knot? Massage Therapy. Many of my patients also have appointments for various forms of massage therapy. In fact, massage therapy and chiropractic care often go well together for the best results. The appointments and fees for the massage therapy are handled by the provider.
