Temperatures are dropping and we have already seen some winter weather flurries here in Northwest Arkansas. When the real winter weather does finally come, you want to make sure you are fully prepared! To help make sure you stay safe this season, we have compiled some tips for how to avoid slips and falls, and what to do if you do get injured.
If you are in an area expected to get snow or icy weather, ensure you are getting updates on when and where it might get worse. This can help you avoid those roads or places and will help prevent injury.
Be hyper-aware of where you are stepping if you do happen to be out in icy weather. Try your best to avoid stairs and curbs, and make sure you look before you step up or down.
Walk cautiously no matter where you are just in case there is a slick spot you cannot see! If it is icy, look for a spot with some grip so you are not planting your foot on a completely iced over the area.
Wear shoes that have good traction and can catch you if you start to slip. Winter snow boots or tennis shoes with a good grip on the bottom can make all the difference in winter weather.
If you do slip and fall, call me immediately. Do not wait to come in because you think it will get better, as the injury can worsen the longer you wait. Injuries to the spine are significant, even if it just a small one!
Keep in mind that getting adjusted regularly can help your spine and the rest of your body be in a better condition to handle a fall.
